3 Players to Look out for – Spain

World Champions and defending European champions have had to deal with injuries, and have named a few ‘unknowns’, in what can be described as a side oozing with quality. Here are 3 players to watch out for.

Jordi Alba, 23, Valencia (Spain), Defender, 5 international caps

Versatile defender Jordi Alba has emerged as one of the bright Spanish talents, and will look to seal the left back spot for himself for years to come. An ever present for Valencia for the last two seasons, he is able to play as a midfielder also, and had 7 assists to his name last season. His ability to switch his style of play makes him the ultimate utility man for the Spaniards.

Javi Martinez, 23, Athletic Bilbao (Spain), Midfielder, 7 international caps

Javi Martinez is one among a long list of talented players to come from the famed Basque football academy of Athletic Bilbao. His performance in midfield for his club have drawn interest from all quarters of Europe, and he was instrumental as the club competed in the Europa League and Copa del Rey finals last season. He was awarded the La Liga breakthrough player of the year in 2010, and has amassed 251 games in 6 seasons, aged just 23.

Alvaro Negredo, 26, Sevilla (Spain), Striker, 9 international caps

Coming through the ranks of Real Madrid, Alvaro Negredo moved to Almeria in 2007, for more first team action. And he impressed quickly, netting 13 goals in his first season. He followed it up with 19 goals in the next season, and returned to Real Madrid, who had a buyback option. However, he was immediately sold to Sevilla, where he scored 14 goals in first season. He scored an impressive 26 in the next, and 14 n the leadup to the Euro’s. He has played only 9 times for the national side, but has scored 6 goals already.
