Arsenal 2 (Podolski 73, Giroud 74) – Swansea City 2 (Bony 11, Flamini (O.G) 93)

Yeah, I know you are wondering why you stumbled upon this page. This blog article about a match that took place over two months back. I profusely apologise. I haven’t blogged much for the past two months, and this is just a way of catching up. The reason I haven’t been able to tweet are quite a lot. Moving to a new city, adjusting to the weather, the food, the dust! But hey, we won a trophy after 9 years. So, take a chill and read the article anyways!

Ok, so how do Arsenal respond to getting mauled 6-0 at Stamford Bridge? Capitulate to struggling Swansea City in typical Arsenal fashion of course. In a nervous wreck of a game, Swansea took the lead through this guy called Bony who appears out of thin air and beats Vermaelen to the ball to head home the opener for the Welsh side. I mean, like really. Who is this guy? I hear some goal scoring machine from Holland, international of Ivory Coast.

And, then you know the drill. Arsenal painfully struggle to get their fluent game going. Swansea are happy to shut shop and use ‘two banks of 4’, a new footballing term invented by commentators as a replacement for the rather dull and insulting word called ‘bus’.

So after nearly 62 minutes of spraying the ball around with little joy, Arsenal finally equalized when Podolski volleyed home from Gibbs’ cross, and the pretty subdued atmosphere at the Emirates became joyful when less than 2 minutes later, Giroud poked home what definitely was the winning goal.

That is, until, in typically disastrous style, Mathieu Flamini bundled the ball home. On the wrong end. With just few seconds to go. And it could have been worse with Jonathan Guzman bearing down on goal, but referee Lee Probert came to the Gunners’ rescue blowing the final whistle, and with that, probably Arsenal’s title challenge too!

Jai Arsenal 🙂
