Arsenal 2 (Sanchez 13, Welbeck 90) – Hull City 2 (Diame 17, Hernandez 46)
Man of the Match – Michael Dawson (Hull City)
Arsenal were held to yet another disappointing draw in the Premier League at home to Hull. However, at one point, it seemed that the Gunners would lose this particular encounter, only a late goal saving the blushes.
Arsenal had to name a makeshift defence, with young Hector Bellerin at right-back and left-back Nacho Monreal having to cover up at centre back. The FA Cup finalists started the match on a bright note, with Arsenal doing the early running, and taking the lead through in-form Chilean Alexis Sanchez, who fooled Curtis Davies into an early challenge, before lashing a shot past former Newcastle keeper Steve Harper.
However, Hull equalized completely against the run of play when Mohommad Diame beat Monreal, and tugged back Flamini, forcing Arsenal’s defenders to stop and hope the referee would call it a foul. The referee didn’t oblige, and the Senegalese midfielder had all the time in the world to chip Szczesny and level the scores. Steve Harper then had to be taken off and replaced by third choice goalie Eldin Jakupovic. Arsenal were left reeling, less than a minute into the second half, when Abel Hernandez made most of Arsenal’s poor defending to head Hull into the lead.
Hernandez had started only after Nikica Jelavic was ruled out after picking up an injury during the warm up. Arsenal failed to get their act together, and struggled to make inroads into Hull’s defence, with Michael Dawson playing a key role for the Tigers. It was only in the final few minutes, that Jakupovic was forced to make saves off Sanchez and then Gibbs. Arsenal, however broke out of jail, when Alexis played in Welbeck, who slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-2 on the evening.
Jai Arsenal 🙂
