Arsenal 3 (Sanchez 70, Chambers 72, Sanchez 90) – Burnley 0
Man of the Match – Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
Arsenal won their second consecutive league match for the first time this season, but they were made to work hard for it, by an enterprising Burnley side. Arsenal enjoyed a lions’ share of possession at 68, and fashioned several chances, but lacked the cutting edge to take the decisive lead.
Alexis Sanchez was at his bustling best throughout the game, and Arsenal’s most creative outlet. He set up Danny Welbeck, who skipped past two defenders, and beat goalkeeper Tom Heaton, but his shot came off left back Kieran Trippier. Heaton had to be at his best, to keep out two lashes from Sanchez from outside the box. Arsenal were peeved not have a penalty, when George Boyd, already on a yellow card, clearly handled the ball inside the area, but the referee refused to award a penalty.
The Clarets continued to hold on to the stalemate bravely, but Arsenal finally got reward for their attacking endeavor when a Chambers cross from the right was met by a rising Alexis Sanchez, who beat Kieran Trippier to the ball to head home the first goal of the match. Arsenal soon made it 2-0, when Chambers capitalized on a lose ball in the area after a Welbeck shot had been saved by Heaton.
Arsene Wenger threw on Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott, who was returning after 9 months on the sidelines. Lukas Podolski was denied brilliantly once, and another time his powerful left footed cannoned shot shook the crossbar. Alexis, however capped off a fine performance by making it 3-0, converting a Kieran Gibbs cross.
Jai Arsenal 🙂
